The Mercedes SLA (Sports Light Automobile) was a concept car introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2000 at the North American International Auto Show. The car was designed to be a sleek, compact roadster with a retractable hard top. The SLA was designed as a more affordable alternative to the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, with a price point around $30,000.
The SLA concept car was powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 170 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The car could accelerate from 0-60 mph in just over seven seconds.
Despite receiving positive reviews from automotive journalists and enthusiasts, the Mercedes SLA never made it into production. Instead, Mercedes-Benz released the SLK-Class as their entry-level roadster. Some elements from the SLA were used in the design of the A-Class and the CLC-Class.
